Love blossoms in the heat and dust of the Outback.
Touring Australia before starting his life as a lawyer back in Kansas seemed like the perfect escape for James. A trip to the Mandarra Horticultural Show has him itching to work on an authentic Australian farm. What he doesn’t expect to find in the bush is a field of sunflowers and a man who makes him tremble with need.
Lachlan has resigned himself to living alone in the Australian bush. Since returning from Sydney to run the family property, he’s put his sexual desires on hold, knowing his mates would never understand. When he takes a chance and hires a good-looking young tourist to help him on the homestead, Lochie begins to wonder just how heated this year’s harvest will be. Will he be able to put his worries aside and take a chance on love?

Known for her scorching Cattle Valley series centered on a predominantly gay town in Wyoming, Carol Lynne has taken her kit way on the road to the Aussie bush country and scores a major hit with this one. Like several other m/m tales set in Australia (Adagio, Red Dirt Heart 1-2-3, Inherit the Sky), this one involves a young North American who is traveling before being forced to go back to work for the family business, which is no longer farming. The young American is the incredibly sexy James, from Kansas, and somehow he winds up on a sunflower farm where the mid-30s hunk owner (and only resident) Lochlan not only takes a shine, but almost immediately roving hands, to James. This despite the fact that Lochlan, like almost all the major butch Australian characters in books like these, is firmly in the closet in what is perceived as a homophobic culture. Not good for tourism, Parliament.
Like most of Ms. Lynne's work, there is wall-to-wall sex here, but a good story, solid writing and excellent character development gets us a hot bunch of sun. I'm on the sequel and it's perfectly in tune.

Harvest Heat edition by Carol Lynne Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This is a great gay erotic romance novel. I really enjoyed it. The storyline and setting are interesting, the characters are perfectly imperfect - i.e. real - and the heat, when it comes, is extreme. A very engaging and easy read, despite the occasional dark and gloomy parts. Recommended for fans of the genre.
Needing time to himself before starting a career he's not sure he wants, James takes a much needed trip to Australia. Remembering how he loved working on his granddad's farm in the states, James wants to experience what it was like to work on a real Australian farm. Venturing into the bush he never expected to love working on a sunflower farm and never expected to fall in love with Lochlan, the landowner who was fourteen years his senior.
Lochlan `Lochie' expected to live a lonely and celibate life, until James `Jamey' happened into his life. Lochie's friends and family didn't know he was gay and he was intending to keep it that way, but doing so may mean losing the best thing that has ever happened to him.
Harvest Heat was hot, sexy and very loving. Lochlan and James were two very emotional guys. For Lochie falling in love was a scary experience and the fear of losing what Jamey so freely offered him brought forth feelings he has never experienced before. Jamey was torn between two worlds. I felt for him because he found what he wanted on Lochie's farm and in Lochie's bed but he was very insecure regarding the depths of Lochie's feeling for him. And on top of being willing to give up his career back home he also knew if he decided to stay with Lochie his father would turn his back on him. Both men had some tough choices with big consequences. Aside from Lochlan and James, I took a liking to few of Lochlan's mates, especially Jacko. I have a feeling there will more to tell about him. Harvest Heat was a sweet story and I really enjoyed it.

It's been ages since last I read one of Carol's books. She was my first GLBT author and I still can't get enough of her stories. Her characters always fall in love almost instantly but it is the challenges they go though to keep that love above all else what really catches the heart and gives the characters substance and a way for us to identify with them.
In this book we have Jamie, an American tourist trying to resign himself to the fact that he will be stuck with a job he doesn't want when he goes back to Kansas. But what he really wants is to follow on his granddad's footsteps and work the land. There is also Lachlan, an Australian farmer trying to work his ranch on his own and make it through the harvest before the birds eat all his seeds.
Like most of Carol's books they fall in love quickly in the book (although a couple weeks has already pass in the story) but it is the challenges they go through to prove their love is stronger than anything that might happen that put the tears in your eyes.
That is what I like most of Carol Lynne's books. They reach your heart and worm their way in until you have no choice but to feel deep what the characters are going through and fight your need to shed a few tears.
Well written. I hope there is a sequel some day. Has a good story line, and the story flows well.
Gay love in the outback...not bad but I have read better. The characters were likeable. The Australian-isms were pretty spot on (if a little exaggerated), but the story just didn't grab me. I found myself skimming the book by the 60% mark. Basically nothing happened. Perhaps the novelty of the setting & dialogue would make up for the monotony if you weren't Australian, but for me, I just wanted it to finish.
There is a lot left for future books to explore but I'm not sure if I will revisit the series.
The story is insta-love with lots of sexiness so if that's your thing, then this book is a real pearler.
